sleeveface

Apr 21, 2010 Author: CyberTranslator | Filed under:

(圖片:sleeveface.com)

引句:
Just when you thought your old LPs were worthless, along comes the incredible photo genre called “sleeveface.” Take an old album cover, preferably with a picture of the artist on it, and then pose with it, merging the album sleeve and background together into a fun — and often unforgettable — photograph.
—John Campanelli, “Download,” Plain Dealer, January 3, 2010

A sleeveface is an image created by holding an album cover over someone’s face or another body part, and snapping a photo of the subject. The selected record cover is generally a photo of someone’s face so the result is in an illusion….The fad has been sweeping the Internet, with sleevefaces popping up on Facebook and art sites. Groups hold parties and workshops to create sleevefaces.

mindcasting

Apr 27, 2009 Author: CyberTranslator | Filed under:

But the claim that Twitter is nothing but mindless inanities is just as wrong as the analogous claim for blogs — in fact it’s precisely the same claim, five years later. There are other things you can do with the technology — the technical terms are “lifecasting” [here's what I had for dinner] vs. “mindcasting” [here's a thought, a question, an observation, a link to something more substantial].
—Sean Carroll, “Twitter Agonistes,” Discover, April 23, 2009

Twitter, the micro-messaging service where users broadcast short thoughts to one another, has been widely labeled the newest form of digital narcissism. And if it’s not self-obsession tweeters are accused of, it’s self-promotion, solipsism or flat out frivolousness.

But naysayers will soon eat their tweets. There’s already a vibrant community of Twitter users who are using the system to share and filter the hyper-glut of online information with ingenious efficiency. Forget what you had for breakfast or how much you hate Mondays. That’s just lifecasting.

Mindcasting is where it’s at.
—David Sarno, “On Twitter, mindcasting is the new lifecasting,” Los Angeles Times, March 11, 2009

A:We need to have everyone sitting down at the same table.

1. have + sb + 原形動詞 / make + sb + 原形動詞 / get + sb + to + 原形動詞 — 意為「使或叫某人做某事)」:I’ll have the porter bring your baggage up right away. (我會叫搬運工馬上把你的行李拿上來);I had John find me a house.

2. have/get + sth + PP (by sb) — 意為「安排 (某人) 做某事」:I had my hair cut yesterday. (我昨天理了頭髮);The place is looking much better since they had it redecorated.

然而,have 還有一種使役動詞句型,那就是「have + sb + Ving」:I had them all laughing at my jokes. We can’t have you going anywhere by taxi. (我們不能允許你無論去哪裡都搭乘計程車);I won’t have anyone smoking in here.

Feb 25, 2009 Author: CyberTranslator | Filed under: 2,497 Views

Elaine Davidson
The world’s most pierced woman has added yet more metal to her body bringing the grand total to more than 6,000.

When first recognised by Guinness World Records in 2000, Elaine Davidson had 462 piercings, with 192 in her face alone. Now, nine years later, she has 6,005 including more than 1,500 that are “internal.”

However, Miss Davidson, born in Brazil, claims she doesn’t like being pierced, and suffers for her art. She is a nurse who now lives in Edinburgh. (Daily Telegraph)

yet more — (adj.) 可以修飾比較級的副詞除了 yet 外,還有 even, far, by far, much, still 等。

like being pierced — (v.) 動詞 like 後面可接動名詞或不定詞,所以 like being pierced 可改為 like to be pierced。
